[FIRST NAME GOES HERE], One of my favorite dining experiences was enjoying high tea at At.mosphere inside the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building.

Reader,

I love a good fine-dining experience.

One of my favorites was enjoying high tea at At.mosphere inside the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, on the 122nd floor.

From the moment I arrived, the experience felt magical.

The hostess welcomed me. A live violinist created the perfect atmosphere. Our waitress thoughtfully introduced each of the four courses, and timed them so we had enough time to savor each one before the next arrived.

Nothing felt rushed.

Nothing felt out of place.

Everything seemed to happen exactly when it should.

As I reflect on that experience, I can only imagine everything that had to happen behind the scenes to make my meal unfold so effortlessly.

Someone had to create the menu.

Someone had to prepare each ingredient.

The hostess, waitress, violinist, chefs, and kitchen staff all had to understand their roles. Each plate had to be prepared, inspected, and presented at precisely the right moment.

Yet all I experienced was the magic.

Travel can feel the same way.

We often admire the finished presentation of someone else’s trip without seeing what happened behind the scenes.

When my travelers arrive in Ghana, they will experience the beautiful accommodations, cultural excursions, carefully selected meals, and unforgettable moments, but they may never see everything required to make those experiences possible.

They will see the finished itinerary BUT not the hours spent researching destinations, comparing options, and coordinating the details.

They will enjoy the accommodations BUT not the work involved in selecting locations that offer the right combination of comfort, convenience, and value.

They will move from one experience to the next BUT not the conversations, confirmations, schedules, and contingency plans created behind the scenes.

They will arrive prepared BUT not always realize how much thought went into the payment timeline, traveler meetings, passport reminders, health information, packing guidance, and cultural preparation.

That is my responsibility as their travel advisor and host: to manage the preparation and behind-the-scenes details so they can be fully present for the experience.

What they will see in Ghana is the final presentation.

But before the first traveler ever boards a plane, there must be a vision, followed by preparation, intentional action, and careful execution.

✈️ Travel Tip of the Week

Before you reserve a fine-dining experience while traveling:

  1. Review the menu and prices in advance. Prices abroad will most likely be listed in the local currency, not dollars. iPhone users have a built-in calculator. Open the native calculator app, tap the convert icon, and choose the currency for a zero-download fix.
  2. Confirm whether reservations are required. Some of the best spots won't seat walk-ins.
  3. Check the dress code. Nothing pulls you out of the moment faster than being turned away at the door.
  4. Look for service charges or gratuities already included in the bill. Avoid double-tipping or under-tipping.
  5. Budget for the complete experience, not just the entrée. Courses, drinks, and service add up fast.

Reader, Tuscaloosa (my hometown) is hungry for African food. I see the Facebook posts all the time from people asking where to find African food.
